Helen Maxfield

Helen makes lively, colourful lino prints inspired by her sketches of the Suffolk countryside and coastline. She is particularly drawn to a landscape with scope for expressive compositions with twists, turns and zigzags. Helen’s work features a wide range of lino-cutting patterns in multiple, colour saturated layers and creatively exaggerated shapes representing the elements of the landscape. Most of Helen’s lino prints are made using the reduction method where the image is created from one block of lino in multiple layers and progressively more lino is removed in between each pass.

A graduate of Lancaster University (BA Hons Art Practice and Theory), Helen now works from her garden studio near Needham Market, accompanied by two feline studio assistants, where she occasionally teaches workshops. A member of Suffolk Craft Society, Suffolk Open Studios and the ‘Twelve Printmakers’ group, Helen exhibits throughout East Anglia in galleries such as Byard Arts in Cambridge, the Minories in Colchester and with the Norwich Print Fair. Helen sells her lino prints online, in galleries and exhibitions and at fairs.
